Sock it to Me Boston: Our Story

Sock it to Me Boston: Our Story

14th May 2015

Sock it To Me Boston is a family business started in 1978. Yeah, that's a long time ago! We are three siblings, Mary, Nancy and Steven, who began with a specialty lingerie boutique at the newly renovated Faneuil Hall Marketplace on Boston's waterfront. It was the first of the festival marketplaces in the U.S. and continues to attract millions of visitors every year. Our business morphed over time to stay fresh and we left lingerie to focus on more family friendly products for the primary customers at Faneuil Hall. We wanted to carry more casual wear at street level so we opened our first pushcart location in the Bull Market. We started with one cart selling shorts and T-shirts, all hand silk-screened in Western Massachusetts. We began to diversify our product mix and to wholesale our original designs at major trade shows in New York city. We now have Sock it to Me, a kiosk, as well as Boxers to Go and Pajama Party on pushcarts with an additional Pajama Party location at The Shops at Prudential Center.

The addition of novelty socks to our product mix in 1995 was a real turning point for us. We were selling sleepwear and found that  the socks were a perfect complement to our own line of nightshirts. Let's just say that socks got their foot in the door and once there continued to grow to be a major category for us. We offer tons of Boston Team fan socks for the Red SoxNew England PatriotsBoston Bruins and Boston Celtics, many of them exclusively designed and made for us by For Bare Feet. Dog Breed socks by Wheel House Designs in Vermont are a mainstay and have been with us for years. K. Bell and Foot Traffic are great sources for fashion socks including knee highs, over the knee socks, slipper socks and toe socks. Gumball Poodle is one of our newer lines offering trendy statement socks in splashy colors. Red Lion Products which are made in the USA bring us fun styles especially the Boston knee highs in vivid red and several stars and stripes designs to show our national pride.

And then came Snoozies! These are whimsical, fun and functional slippers with sherpa lining, bright designs and non-skid soles that everyone seems to love. We keep looking for great products like these to offer so we keep it fresh by going to several trade shows through the year. New styles are offered every season to keep our customers coming back for more.

We continue to sell our own line of Novelty Boxer Shorts and Boston Apparel including Sweatshirts, Sweatpants, T-shirts, Tank Tops and Shorts. They are still printed by hand in Western Mass. by One Way Screen Printing whose crew of awesome printers and designers keep our carts stocked year 'round. Nancy works on production in Amherst while Mary and Steven work with our incredible Boston crew to make visitors welcome and make sure they go home with the perfect gift or souvenir. We like to keep it fun and we love working together!
